Age: 39 Height: 6'3" Address: Malton, North Yorkshire
Occupation: Risk Assessor. Band Position: Principal Cornet. Player
History: Started playing cornet at the age of 8 with Kirkbymoorside Band, with
whom he stayed, apart from brief appearances with the Scarborough Town Band and
British Steel Teeside Band, for 23 years before making for the more enjoyable
atmosphere at Stape Silver Band. Throughout his career he has played in all
sections of the National leagues, playing cornet, soprano, tenor horn, flugel
horn and back to cornet. He says: " I play in Brass Bands for enjoyment and the
atmosphere at Stape is tremendous, everyone enjoys it, the preparation, the
playing, and the social side. It's what Brass-banding is all about."
Nigel is currently taking a break from Stape. He has recently transferred to the dizzy heights
of one of the North of England's top bands. He says:-"I've played for over thirty years now
and at every level of brass banding; the one thing I have never achieved is to perform on stage
at the Royal Albert Hall, so, when EYMS were in need of a cornet player to complete their team
it was something I had to do. I know the folks at Stape understand and I'll be back before
the Areas in March so the impact is minimal and, for me, it's a lifetimes ambition achieved."
