Cornet. Player History: I started playing cornet at the age of 8 with Swinton
and District Excelsior Band. In 1985 I changed to soprano, 2 years later winning
the 11-14 age group in the Ryedale Slow Melody Contest. I became principal
cornet in 1997. In 1999 I left Swinton to join Stape Silver on the solo cornet
team. That year I played my last contest for Swinton and my first for Stape at
the Scarborough Contest, with Swinton winning the 3rd Section and Stape the 2nd.
A fitting end to one chapter of my life and the beginning of another. I am
pleased I joined Stape because everyone is so friendly. Although I am a relative
newcomer, I feel I have been there for years. Of course the social side to the
band did not influence my decision to join!!
