Address: Pickering, North Yorkshire
Band Position:
Principal Euphonium.
Player History: : I do have a brass history I suppose, my dad played in the band, his dad did too,
you could say it runs in the family. I didn't really want to start when I was young because I thought it w
as a waste of time and boring. My mum, dad and sister all went off to band on a Tuesday and Thursday night,
which left me being looked after my Grandmothers.
I first started playing when I was about 7. I started to learn on the cornet as I thought it was easy to
start off with. Once I was good enough I started to play in the Senior Band when I was 9 on the 3rd cornet.
The first contest I played was Darlington and I was indeed very nervous. I moved up to Flugel horn and had good
comments posted about me on the website '4-bars-rest' in 2005. Later that year I transferred to the Euphonium,
playing Entertainments by Gilbert Vinter at the area contest as my first test piece on this particular instrument
with the band being placed second on this occasion.
The band hasn't had much luck over the years with euphonium players, they maybe think it's hard, I don't know,
but we have had people come and go.
In 2006 I played the Euphonium solo 'There will be God' at Malton contest. I unluckily didn't win the soloist
prize but the band won four of the five trophies that were on offer to win. I have now been playing for quite sometime,
I enjoy the band practises and the challenge of working out how to play new pieces. I think I have progressed a lot
over the years and hopefully will carry on playing for sometime to come.
